Meena Bazaar Delhi is the famous & Historical market for women’s article. It is the same Meena Bazaar that is symbolized in many Indian songs also, one of the famous songs is “Dilli shahar kaa sara, Meena bazaar le ke”. It is also know as “Chhatta Chowk or Chhatta Bazaar Chowk” because it has roof that termed as “Chhatt”. At that time “Bazaar with Roof” was rare to see.

Meena Bazaar is located inside the historical Lal Quila Fort in Chandani Chowk in Delhi, Capital of India. You need to enter from Chandani Chowk, Lahori Gate side in Red fort to go to Meena Bazaar.

Nearest Metro station are Jama Masjid Metro station & Lal Quila Metro Station.

History of Meena Bazaar

Meena Bazaar Delhi build at the time of Mughal Era, When Shahjahan Was the King in 17th Century. The bazaar began as a women-only fair during festivals like Navroz, where noblewomen, sold luxury goods such as silks, decorative woven fabrics, carpets, and jewelry and Ladies from Royal families come for the shopping. In men only king was allowed in the market. At the end of Mughal empire, part of Meena Bazaar is re-located near Jama Masjid and Delhi gate.

Shops Inside Meena Bazaar

By the 20th century, Meena Bazaar near Jama Masjid and Delhi Gate became a public market with temporarily stalls selling clothes, footwear, groceries, and daily essentials. 

Once remembered as a space largely associated with women, it is now a dense, male‑run market selling affordable clothing, blankets, religious items, footwear and everyday goods to local residents and pilgrims.

Red fort Meena Bazaar:

  • Open : Tuesday to Sunday from 9 AM to 6 PM
  • Close : Monday (as Red fort is closed)

The Jama Masjid side Meena Bazaar

  • Operates daily from late morning to evening.
  • roughly 11:00 am to 8:00 pm
